Windows Vista vs XP: The startup showdown

Saturday, July 8th, 2006

Now that I’m dual-booting Vista Beta 2 and XP on my PC, I thought I’d do some performance Windows Vista 18.jpgtesting to see how the different Windows generations compare on the same hardware. First, startup.

Using a very scientific method (er, my running stopwatch) I timed how long it took for my PC to go from the dual-boot menu to username/password prompt in Vista and XP. I had high hopes for the beta, but my optimism was quickly dashed. The results, after the jump:

Vista Beta 2 bootup time: 51.71 seconds

Windows XP bootup time: 35.34 seconds

XP is still 31 percent faster bootup-wise than Vista! Windows Vista Beta: The startup showdown - Lifehacker
