Windows Vista vs. Mac OS X: The Copycat Olympics

Friday, August 18th, 2006

Now that we know more about Mac OS X Leopard, the battle lines are clearly being drawn betweenleopardvsvista.jpg Apple’s offering and the one that’s sitting in Redmond somewhere. Even though some of us may have been mostly unimpressed with the keynote presentation at this year’s WWDC, that hasn’t stopped Apple from being proud of what they’ve been hard at work on.

As you can imagine, industry analysts and regular consumers have been comparing Leopard and Vista very closely, and its fun to watch the reaction from both sides. Even if something really isn’t all that spectacular, you can count on the dedicated fan base to jump up and down and proclaim that it’s the best thing ever, which really pollutes the waters of honest opinion.

Companies compete in different ways - some are quieter about their competition, while others will take advantage of every opportunity to bring the other side down. Apple is notorious for being up close and personal with Microsoft during their conference and keynote presentations, and while it’s always amusing, sometimes they go a little too far. This year, banners were hung in the conference center that said things like, "Hasta la vista, Vista." I give them big points for getting this message across in a clever way, but that’s not all they did. OSWeekly.com - Windows Vista vs. Mac OS X: The Copycat Olympics
