Vista without HD-DVD Native Support
Saturday, October 14th, 2006
Yesterday stories hit the wire indicating HD-DVD support had been dropped from the 32 bit version
of Vista but remained in the 64 bit version. Since we were not aware that Vista would have native support for HD-DVD in the first place this struck us as odd.
Upon review of our notes and confirmation with Microsoft, there has never been a plan to put HD-DVD native support (allowing it to play HD-DVD disks without third party software) into Vista in any version of the OS and that plan has not changed according to our historical records and our current confirmation calls. Both XP and Vista will play HD-DVD and Blue Ray disks with third party software. Technology Pundits ~ Vista without HD-DVD Native Support
