The Rising Tide of Vista

Security is the lens through which I always view products like Windows Vista, and in that view it Windows vista 004.jpglooks good. But there is a bigger picture with Vista for the industry: It’s really, really different from previous versions. At many levels it requires a different approach. Security is just one prominent aspect of this, although it will require a great deal of retraining of users, administrators and developers. This is a good thing, or at least it’s easy for me to say so not having to pay for it. Even if it’s good it’s one of the things that will make the adoption of Vista by business a slow, if steady and inexorable process.

But things don’t end there. For instance, Vista is the first version of Windows for which it’s obvious to me that little of the installed base of hardware will be adequate. The hardware requirements are astonishingly large. The Rising Tide of Vista
