Technophobes beware: Hard to avoid new Vista

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

Now that you’ve finally mastered your Windows XP computer system, Microsoft Corp. wants you Windows Vista 002.jpgto change. Next week’s introduction of Microsoft’s Vista, the first overhaul in five years of the software that runs most of the world’s computers, marks the beginning of the end of XP. Beginning early next year, Vista will come pre-loaded on virtually every new personal computer.

And users will have to adapt.

You know that great filing system you’ve finally figured out to save and store documents, photos and music?

Forget about it. With Vista, those little beige folders are replaced with snapshots of your data or tiny images of your photos.

Don’t worry, though. If you can’t find your way around the new system, an improved search function will make locating any document, file, e-mail message or calendar entry as easy as finding a Web site with Google or Yahoo.

Those are just some of the changes in Vista, which Microsoft promises will bring big improvements in security and ease of use. Technophobes beware: Hard to avoid new Vista | ajc.com
