Stronger locks in Vista

Wednesday, September 13th, 2006

Windows Vista, the next generation of Microsoft Corp’s ubiquitous operating system (OS) will Windows Vista 6.jpginclude far better security enhancements compared to the previous version, announced the software giant. Steve Riley, the company’s senior security strategist of its security technology unit, told an audience at the recent TechEd developers conference that the new version will do more code validation to determine a system’s integrity.

It would firstly note digital signatures of certain core system files and later check for changes which might indicate that an intrusion has occurred and that the computer had been tampered with by hackers.

Checks can be done during the start-up process and if the digital signatures don’t tally the system won’t load, Riley said. He also said that driver software, needed to make computer hardware function and “talk” to the OS, is becoming a problem. The Star Online : TechCentral - Malaysia Technology
