Microsoft considering offering holiday discounts on Vista
Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006
Microsoft Corp. is considering offering discounts later this year to entice consumers to upgrade
their operating systems to Windows Vista, which is not due to hit store shelves until January.
Kevin Kutz, a director in Microsoft’s Windows Client Group, said the software maker is in talks with its computer makers and other retail partners about a range of possible promotions for Vista during the holidays, but declined to discuss any further details.
Plagued by a series of delays, Vista will be the first update to Microsoft’s flagship operating system since Windows XP was released in 2001. Microsoft has said it appears to be on track to ship the business version of Vista in November and to consumers in January.
But last month, Kevin Johnson, co-president of the Microsoft division that includes Windows, said the company would not hesitate to delay Vista again if it has any concerns about quality. Windows News: Microsoft considering offering holiday discounts on Vista
