HOW TO: install iTunes 7 on Vista RC1
Thursday, September 14th, 2006
If you’ve had problems installing the new iTunes 7 on Windows Vista RC1 today, here’s how to
work around the problem. First, the error: “Some files that need to be updated are currently in use. The following applications are using files that need to be updated by this installer. Close these applciations and click Retry to continue. ipodservice (process id: 2516)”
Hit ctrl+alt+del and select “start task manager” from the system menu that appears. Click on the “name” column header to sort by name, and find ipodservice.
Note, however, that right clicking on the service and stopping it from that window won’t work. (I got an access denied message.) Instead, click on the “services” button and authenticate yourself through the User Account Control alert that appears. APC Magazine » HOW TO: install iTunes 7 on Vista RC1
