Buzz: Vista to cost $5,000 per user? No way

How much will it cost to upgrade businesses to Windows Vista? Anyone who works in IT knows
that pinning a number down for a question like this is a nigh-impossible task. Are you replacing hardware? Do you need to retrain users? What software are you using, anyway?
Thursday James Gaskin of ITworld wrote an article claiming that "each Vista user will cost your company between $3,250 and $5,000." The article is so deeply flawed and sensationalistic that I’m reticent to even address it, but it continues to make the rounds and enough readers have asked for comment that I figured a brief word or three is fair since this is the middle of a long weekend. Buzz: Vista to cost $5,000 per user? No way.
