A Windows Vista RC2 by any other name…
Wednesday, October 4th, 2006
The rumor mill is heating up with predictions that Windows Vista Release Candidate 2 is coming in
the next week. It all got started when Microsoft’s general manager of Microsoft’s Windows Client Product Management team, Brad Goldberg, told eWeek what we could already surmise: there will be another test release after RC1. This much seemed obvious from our own testing of RC1, which showed a mature code base in need of some spit and polish.
Sources tell me that Microsoft is committed to getting the business release of Vista out the door before the close of November. And by committed, I mean mach schnell! While the company is having an internal debate over whether or not to name the release "RC2" or simply release another build, the end result is the same: the company wants one more go at obtaining feedback. Internally, sources tell me, Microsoft is delaying work on consumer-version issues to focus primarily on the functionality that will ship with its corporate-minded fare. This actually puts Microsoft in a good position, because it’s a much smaller set of problems to focus on. A Windows Vista RC2 by any other name…
